I have since discovered that my great uncle Cyril Smith lived in Cottonwood Wells, ND. His sister, Rose Smith Thurston lived in Heaton and was married to my greatgrandfather, William Harrison Thurston. He farmed in the Heaton area and also, I think, owned a hardware store. They were charter members of the Heaton Congregational Church. I would appreciate any information that anyone could find for me.

It came to an old email account that I do not use much anymore as I have had to change things because of a credit card theft. I appreciate the information. I don't think that there have been any Thurston's in Heaton since the late 1940's. My great grandfather, Will Thurston, died in 1950. They were charter members of the Heaton Congregational Church. I know there would possibly be marriage records for their daughters, Vivian and Ruth Thurston there. I suspect there would be some records of Will and Rose Thurston being Charter Members and she was the church clerk for a long time. I am not sure what would be there in the courthouse. I would love some historical information on Heaton and if anyone knew where the Thurston farm used to be, but don't know if anyone would know that anymore. I would be appreciative of anything anyone could find for me. Thank you for contacting me. You can contact me at gtfamhist@comcast.net.

Hello, I am in possession of copies of several pages from the cemetery book, "Cemeteries of North Dakota, Wells County Volume 29", Red River Valley Genealogical Society, 1991. The pages I have list burials, by row, from several different cemeteries. Unfortunately, it is impossible to tell what cemetery my ancestors are buried in, as there is no header or footer information on the pages. Would it be possible for someone on this list who is in possession of this book, to please do me a favor and tell me the name of the cemeteries for the burials following pages? Thank you for any help you can give me. Pages: 18, 19, 50, 92, 94, 131, 150 Thank you. Barb Thomas Bothell, WA

Hi listers; I am interested in finding out if there is a way to check for a death record for Leslie Hayes Johnson who died 14 November 1920 without going through the government. Iam not a direct relative, rather I am a third cousin once removed so I don't fit the usual criteria on a government request for a death record. Leslie was the son of Forrest Sandford Johnson and Lillian (Scott). He was born circa the 14th of March 1920. The 1920 US census captured Forrest and Lillian in Bowden, Wells County in January of that year. Leslie is not buried in North Dakota, instead he is buried with his great grandparents in Mower County, Minnesota. I have had the Minnesota and Montana death records that are on-line checked and a death record for him was not found. I am guessing that he died in North Dakota. Forrest was employed by the Imperial Grain Company to start up grain elevators in small towns. Any help with my "challenge" would be appreciated. Alan Ontario, Canada
