The year (age wise) is a little off but depending on what time of year the census was taken etc. She (my grandmother) was born between 1884 and 1887 in North Dakota (new information) and her parents were both born in Denmark. Do you have a website link or other info? I have a subscription to the USA census for that year. Thanks so much for your information - you may have helped me find a missing link!

They were living in the little town of Gilby, just northwest of the city of Grand Forks. Her family left Denmark in 1882 according to the census. I don't know if this is your relative or not, like you said there aren't a lot of Denmark born Sorenson's in ND.

Unfortunately all I know about her is that she was born in North Dakota in May of 1883. She married my grandfather sometime around 1908. She was skilled in the "healing arts" and knew her way around horses and survival. From what I gather she was quite a woman. She did have a brother and a sister, too, I think but I don't knwo their names. My guess is she met my grandfather at a church probably close to where he was homesteading - which was 2 miles from Heaton just inside the Kidder County line. They were both quite religious.

Thanks for keeping your eye open for information on this.

The reference to Roosevelt, ND would have to be in the area of Medora, next to the Roosevelt National Park. Teddy Roosevelt lived and ranched in that area before his presidency and at one time there may have been a post office out there named Roosevelt. I have done some looking and as of yet have not been able to find any concrete evidence of that. If I do, I'll surely let you know. Ken

Can anyone tell me where Roosevelt is and what county it's in? Hoepfully this will give me an idea where to begin to locate my grandmother's Sorensen family. THANKS!

Surnames: Sauter Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XWB.2ACI/19 Message Board Post: I have an identified US Army Signal Corps photo that was inside an October 1954 "annual" from the Fifth Armored Division at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, that was purchased on ebay. It is identified as SP 3/C James E. Sauter, possibly from Tuttle, ND (this is printed on the back, but lined through), part of the color guard of the Japan Signal Battalion at Camp Fuchinobe, Japan, 15 July 1955. In the book, there is listed a James J. Sauter, D Company, 34th Medium Tank Battalion. and a James E. Sauter, D Company, 80th Heavy Tank Battalion. The book goes to a proper historical archive in Arkansas, but I would be happy to get the photo to the family of this soldier. If he can at least be identified by county/state I will send this to a local historical society if requested.
