Had glitch so am forwarding Char's email to the list... ~Lee ===forwarded message=== On Tuesday, July 20, 2004 8:10 AM [GMT+5=ET], Char Kibbie <csnkibbie@comcast.net> wrote: Hi Mike, I am the CC for Dickey County and am in the process of transcribing the 1925 ND State Census for that county. I created a table that included a Notes column. I am so glad I did. The column provided a space for me to add notes as the transcriber to help researchers and also a place for researchers to ask me to include notes for other researchers. Lorraine twp. is a good example - scroll down and take a look at household 28 http://www.rootsweb.com/~nddickey/1925tlor.htm Hamburg and Hudson twps. are good examples showing how my notes in the heading offers help interpreting how the census taker counted the households. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nddickey/1925tham.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~nddickey/1925thud.htm The archives are wonderful. However, these examples show why more personalized and interactive census info is helpful to researchers, especially the newbies. I received an email from someone who browses the web site in family research. He found an ancestor (success) but he wanted to let me know that in both the 1900 and 1910 census, the surname is not spelled correctly and asked to get them corrected. Both of these files are in USGenWeb Archives - I link to them. I sent an email to the transcriber asking him if he could change it. The email bounced. I've run across this problem before and once tried to have one corrected with no success. It seems the census records that are out there, some in various places, from my experience, never get updated. Am I assuming correctly. Would anyone wish to suggest something here. The last thing I really want to do is to go back to this fella and say tough luck; no change possible. I do intend to respond to him; he deserves a response. But I am really struggling with what to say. Sincerely, Mike Emmons CC
