    3. Dear Tim and other ND CCs- No doubt others of you have received the following e-mail request. -----Original Message----- From: Patrice [mailto:patrice@pop.ctctel.com] Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2002 9:59 AM To: csnkibbie@attbi.com Subject: link to county page Charlotte: I conduct genealogical research in North Dakota and I am also the President of the North Dakota State genealogical Society. Thank you for putting a link to the North Dakota State Genealogical Society website on each of your county pages. Would you please put a link to my research page on the main page of each of your North Dakota county pages? Please list only the following title on the link: Professional Genealogical Research Services http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndstark/hartsearch I have access to all the North Dakota federal and state census records, many of the county and town histories, newspapers and I also conduct research at the North Dakota State archives. . Thank you very much. Patrice Hartman I would like to share my feelings and welcome feedback and insights from each of you. Here's my imput. I will answer her question as stated with an emphatic - NO. It is my understanding that the USGenWeb Project is focused on offering free genealogical research information. I know that some CCs participating in the project forget that. I intend to be one CC who is dedicated to keeping that focus. Therefore I will not post her link on the main page. However, professional services do have a place so at some point I imagine I'll be posting some such information BUT not on the main page. This particular request flashed a red flag to me. Even with a disclaimer (which would be a must) I don't feel comfortable placing her link on my site. With a link already to the North Dakota State Genealogical Society researchers should find her info there. And it is there. This is why I'm writing this message, I can't state the particulars of why I'm sensing hesitancy, but I am. Here's a link I recommend for guidelines when considering hiring a professional researcher. Go to www.familysearch.org. Click on the Search tab. Click on Research Helps. On the left, click on Sorted by Title. Click H, then scroll down and click on the title "Hiring a Professional Genealogist". How do the rest of you feel about this message and the topic of links to specific research genealogists in general? Char Kibbie CC for Dickey Co. NDGenWeb CC for Sargent Co. NDGenWeb

    3. I'm a bit slow in jumping in on this one but totally agree. This individual emails me every couple of months with the same request. On the other hand she could pay me to advertise for her, since that's what I would be doing. Right? That never seems to come into the equation. I just delete her messages.
