Hello all! Please visit our orphaned counties page <http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndgenweb/adopt.htm> and see which counties need a CC. Perhaps you might know of a person who does research in several counties and might be interested in one of our orphans. We don't mind babysitting, but would love to see the counties adopted. Then we'd have time to do more for *our* counties. Thanks! ~Lee
That looks great Lee! Thanks Holly for pointing out the 1880 Howard County census. I'll see what I can do to make this clearer on the Dunn County site. Terri >From: "L. S. Okay -- I've compared information and updated the table page. In a few instances I had conflicting info so I did the best I could. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndgenweb/table.htm ~Lee S. King SC NDGenWeb Project
Dunn County was formed in 1883 from Howard County but abolished that same year. It was later added to Stark County in 1897 and finally formed as Dunn County from Stark and Mercer in 1908. I would recommend changing the parent county to Stark. It would be more useful to researchers since there is nothing available out there for the very short-lived Howard County. Terri >From: "L. S. Barnes county was formed in 1872 as Burbank county and renamed Barnes in 1874. Government organized date: 1879. Cass is correct. Ransom is correct. ;) Michelle

Lee, Pembina County was an organized county of Minnesota Territory from 1849 to 1858. From 1858 to 1861 it was unorganized. It became part of Dakota Territory in 1861. So technically you are correct. Greetings all! I'm going to make an attempt this week to completely update and correct the table page as some of the counties have erroneous info. Here's the URL to check it out: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndgenweb/table.htm For example -- Adams County. Our table page states it was formed in 1885 out of Stark County. Erm, okay, but according to what I've researched, it was created by territorial proclamation in 1907 from the southern part of Hettinger County. As my source for correcting the info, I'm using this page: http://discovernd.com/government/countyhist.html If you could take a few moments and look at your counties to verify the info is correct, it would help me immensely. If the info for your county is right, just send me a note saying so and if it's not, a short email with the correct date of county formed, parent county, and county seat would be great. Thanks! ~Lee S. King SC NDGenWeb Project
If 'date formed' equals 'date established' then Traill and Emmons dates are correct. There is what is called an 'organized date' and in the case of Traill it is same year but Emmons is 1883. I have no idea what counties were formed 'from' so assuming your data is correct. The 'current' county seats are correct for both although both had different seats when organized. Take care Lee ! Hi Lee, Sargent County is correct. However, Dickey County was created from LaMoure, Ransom, and Unorg. Terr. The rest is correct. Also could you please put Char Kibbie instead of Charlotte Kibbie? Hi Brenda ! I don't know what all you are looking for but I think there is an obit out there for whom I believe is his mother - see this page - http://dp3.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/cgi-bin/Obituary/obit.pl - their main page is here - http://www.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/ndirs/bio&genealogy/forumobits.html - this is an NDSU database which is what the college is called now and was called NDAC when Ronald went there. They don't have a lot of the years as you will see when you read it but you might get the Fargo Forum to search if you have a date of his death or close to it. I'm not sure how to contact somebody from the Forum to help with an obit that old but this email address might be able to help you - archive@in-forum.com - it's an address for archived on-line obits but only goes back to 1995. At the bottom of this page - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~obitl/volnd.html - you will see an Alice who will do lookups in the Forum. I will send you the two articles I mentioned a couple days ago. Sincerely, Mike
He is in two Bismarck newspaper articles. Pre-World War II articles. One is on his membership in a glee club and one is on his selection for air corps. If you don't have access Brenda and you want them please advise and I'll get them to you. Sincerely, Mike Emmons Traill ps - Both articles indicate he is from Absaraka which is in Cass County near the land of the great AMENIA !! :]
