Oy -- trying to list them all.... * In our case, trying to get the orphans adopted (which Michelle has proven to be much better at than I am). LOL * Keeping the state email list current, doing the check out bounces thing -- all that. * Keeping track of all CCs -- because if one goes missing, we have an abandoned county. Which is why I occasionally check the counties to see when they've been updated and have the roll calls. * Make decisions if a county becomes abandoned -- Michelle and I have had many discussions about how much time passes before it's considered abandoned, etc., because real life can interfere with our online volunteer time, and we don't want to take action in the midst of what might be real life crises for a CC. So it involves keeping tabs on a site that seems to not have updates, and continuing to try to contact a CC (they move be moving to email addys no longer work which is why they are bouncing...), then after a period of time, having the sad, painful task of contacting Rootsweb (if it's hosted on their server) and asking to have the site declared abandoned or delinking it, and putting it up for adoption. * Keeping the state website updated -- including checking links, making sure all CCs are listed with current email addys, making sure any orphans are properly marked and listed. For what the USGenWeb Project requires as far as the state site goes, the list is here: http://usgenweb.com/volunteers/SCguidelines.shtml * Keeping the EC updated on who the CCs are for voting purposes. * Understanding people and being able to analyse situations and handle them adroitly -- as with any job where you are considered a supervisor over others. (IMO, this might be the most important qualification ) * Understanding a plethora of things from how to walk people through problems with uploading, why their site isn't working right, basics of copyright law (because folks expect you should know these things LOL), and where the best hunting lodges are in the various counties (okay, joking about that last, but I've been emailed with that question *rolling eyes*). * A sense of humor (not strictly a qualification but IMO it helps tremendously). I'm sure there's more. Joe and Michelle, chime in to let me know what I've missed. My brain is fried -- as usual. Some states have volunteers to do things like handle the site, etc., so whoever is the new SC might delegate a few things. But the SC needs to oversee and make sure it is getting done. > How much time does it take?? At times, very little. At other times, it seems to never end. > Who are current candidates ( besides yourself :] )? I'm not a candidate. I've been showing Michelle the ropes as Joe taught them to me, because I intend on nominating her -- I don't know if it's proper to say so beforehand, but I'm not up on proper rules of order. Oops -- my husband is calling. I need to get off this contraption and help paint while he's cutting the flooring. (Remodeling almost done! Yay!) ~Lee S. King SC NDGenWeb Project
