    3. Hi, Just uploaded school census and school records for Nelson County, Marriage records for Towner County and cemetery records for Rolette County. Any CC wanting to download the archived records for use in your http pages, have at it. In any event, I hope you make your researchers aware of the treasures accumulating in the NDGenWeb Archives. The latest are courtesy of Mary Lindbo another contact that George Barron aimed my way. George is my ace in the hole for ND records. Thanks, George. 2. kshort
    3. Below are the results of the Boards vote on Motion 99-34 along with Tim's comments on how to sub to the list. Please pass on to all CC's as soon as possible. Ken "Pecos" Short Board Secretary - ----------------------------------------------------------- In almost record time - the Board vote on Motion 99-34 passes with 15 - yes, 0 - no, 0 - abstain, 1 not voting. I've added all Board members to the accept list. I've changed the permissions on the list to start accepting subscriptions. I've put a bounce limit of 4 in list form and 3 in digest form the list so I won't have to see so many bounce messages - which means that if a person has email problems they'll bounce off quickly. They can sub at their own leisure by sending a message to: List mode: BOARD-L-request@rootsweb.com - with the word subscribe in the body OR Digest: BOARD-D-request@rootsweb.com - with the word subscribe in the body Tim

    3. Speaking with Brian this evening and asking him about Rootsweb's situation regarding the changeover tomorrow night: Brian says: "RootsWeb believes it is fully ready for Y2K (modulo trivial problems). HOWEVER, We believe there is some chance that parts or all of RootsWeb may be temporarily unavailable because of difficulties elsewhere on The Net. We will do everything in our power to work around any problems other sites or backbone Net carriers have." Also please be aware that some systems who house USGW pages (non-Rootsweb) are going to be turned off intentionally for the date rollover. How long this will be for is anyone's guess. As of now the Indiana state page is down for unknown reasons but this may be the case of working on the date rollover. If so, I'm sure that there will be others. Tim

    3. Here is a URL that should inpire: http://starnews.com/extra/features/99/dec/1207st_cemetery.html Every county in every state could use a John Walters clone. North Dakota has it's share of cemeteries needing this type of attention. This past summer I placed my grandmothers name on a family stone in Crystal Cemetery. She was probably buried very near Bowesmont either on a farm or a country cemetery long forgotten and now perhaps a wheat or potato field. I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday Joe -- email:jzsed@slic.com http://www.rootsweb.com/~jzed/home.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndpembin/pembina.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndramsey/ramsey.htm

If you see something you like elsewhere you'd like to see on the site associated with this list please let me know. As this is a rather extensive list some sites have more than others. 1. [NDGENWEB-L] List info
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. First of all if you received my last post ok, then you are receiving messages from the list ok. However, as I stated in my last post - if you feel that you aren't getting messages as you should there are several reasons why this may be so: 1. no one is writing to the list 2. problems at Rootsweb 3. problems with your ISP 4. you've been unsubbed for some reason. For the first 3 reasons I have no solution other than for the number 1 in which you could post some info to the list - please don't post though to see if the list is working. For reason 4, send me a private email and I'll check to make sure you are subscribed in either mail or digest mode. Several of you have asked if the list is archived and if so how one could look at previous messages posted to the list. The list is archived and is viewable. If you don't want personal details world viewable don't put it in list mail but send it privately to who you wish to let know such information. To view the archives of this list go to: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl and for the listname input: NDGENWEB and select which year you wish to view and any keywords you wish to use. If you have questions regarding the use of that form let me know. Tim

    3. The United States Digital Map Library, a project of the USGenWeb Archives, is now under the coordination of Kelly Mullins and Mary Ann Hetrick. Please take a moment to browse through it at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/. As with all Archives projects, this one is dependent on both volunteers and contributions. Many states are currently in need of coordination, and map contributions are very much needed and appreciated. 1. [NDGENWEB-L] Report to subscribers
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Just a quick report to let you know that as of this evening we have 30 subscribers to this list including 23 in list mode and 7 in digest mode. One thing I'd like to ask members to do though. If you feel you may be unsubbed from the list because of problems with your computer or provider or haven't seen many messages of late - please send me an email asking me to check it out for you. Otherwise I'll get a message of some sort from the server saying you are already a subscriber. If there is a problem with your address receiving list mail - this will be the fastest way for me to assist you - otherwise it may get buried in the 850 reject messages I currently have... In my next email, I'm going to share with you a little of what else I do in case you might be wondering. Tim Stowell State Coordinator - NDGenWeb Project

    3. Hi, Recent uploads include a history of Guelph, Dickey County submitted by Judy Huber and the 1905 School Census for Stutsman County submitted by George Barron. George tells me that school census records are literally rotting away. This is tragic because we are losing data that may not be available anywhere else. Those interested in transcribing these records might want to look at George's comments at the beginning of each school census file at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nd/stutsman/stutsman.htm and contact George if you have questions. Anyway, thanks Judy and George. Joe -- email:jzsed@slic.com http://www.rootsweb.com/~jzed/home.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndpembin/pembina.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndramsey/ramsey.htm

    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Fellow CCs of North Dakota, I came across a site tonight that at first floored me as it purported to contain information regarding Civil War battles fought in North Dakota! As this was news to me that any battle regarding the Civil War having been fought there I continued into the site. It turns out to be actions by the US Army against various Indians that happened to occur in the time frame of the Civil War but nevertheless is an interesting site. http://www.californiacentralcoast.com/commun/map/civil/statepic/nd.html Tim
