    1. [NDGENWEB-L] Surname Helper
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Effective 1 May 2003, RootsWeb will discontinue support for Surname Helper and remove it from their servers. Surname Helper users must select some other indexing program in their profile settings (such as CCHelper <http://www.rootsweb.com/~cchelper/>) as the program that indexes Query Express. This must be done before Surname Helper is removed from RootsWeb's servers. -Isaiah Richard "Isaiah" Harrison National Coordinator The USGenWeb Project ------------------------------------------------------via webmail---- Tim Stowell tstowell@chattanooga.net

    3. Hi- La Rae Huelsman, who is doing this project, has been helping me get the Sargent County site plumped with useful info and she has run into a snag. Can any of you help? I am currently working on an index for the 1900 Sargent Co census. ED 159 and 158 are completed. My question is this--does any one on the list have some enhancement software that could "fix" a page?? the very first page of ED 155 (1A) is pretty much illegible due to black streaks from tape or something and I lack the software to fix this. Any help most appreciated! When complete this will be submitted to Roots Web for free usage by all. In the meantime, if anyone needs help finding their ancestors on the census, I will gladly check the index for what I have done to date. THANKS! 3. If you have a photo that exemplifies North Dakota on your web site and would allow that to be added to the state page, please let me know. I've got a photo for Golden Valley County and am seeking something from the eastern and central parts of the state but will consider any photo that says 'this is North Dakota'. I'm working on a page to show just that and am asking you folks first for such examples. Tim

    3. Health concerns are forcing me to relinquish some of the hats I wear in USGenWeb. I am presently in charge of Query Express, USGenWeb's own query management system. I would like to find a volunteer to take over this responsibility. The successful candidate should be able to program in C++ in a Linux enviornment. Duties include making upgrades to the software, tracking down CCs whose queries are bouncing and helping them to update their profiles. Applicants can write to me privately. Please pass this message on to any and all USGenWeb mailing lists.

    3. Thanks Char. I visited your pages and was pleased to see you are using all the data available to you in the Archives and adding your own. That is the name of this game, putting data online for our researchers. 3. The 1920 Census images are now complete, uploaded and linked. For those of you who like to build pages you can go to the readme file for your county Archives page and use the township and ED (enumeration district) numbers found there to link back to specific image file#s. Let your researchers think you did all the work, I don't mind <G> and you can have some fun. If anyone does this please post it here. I would like to see what you do with this and share it with others. Anyone needing clarification of what I have described drop me an email. The 1930 images are half completed thru McIntosh. Eight reels of film remain. I have 5 reels on order and expect to complete the entire census by March. Joe

    3. Dear folks, I trust everyone had a good holiday season. I was able to go to Minnesota / North Dakota border area for 11 days. I did get in a couple of days of skiing as the temps hit 0 a couple of times. However, 0 there is warmer than 30 here for it was much drier there than the humid South. On the genealogy side of things I was able to acquire some MN items but also touched base with my Richland county contact as we seek to expand that site. Here is a URL containing all North Dakota counties and URLs that lead to the various census info on line for the counties. If you haven't linked to these for your visitors, please consider doing so: http://www.censusfinder.com/north_dakota.htm Please let Joe or myself know of any concerns or items you may need assistance with and have a wonderful 2003. 3. Hi folks, I'm back from vacation and now must wade through and try to answer some of the 1500 emails that were awaiting me. I've that to do plus page maintenance. I'm going to a ear/nose/throat specialist on Thursday to see what he has to say about my right ear and it's loss of hearing from the ruptured ear drum. While I have some sound there, it's like listening to sound through a sponge. Once I get some of this back log undone, I'll be back in touch. Tim

    1. [NDGENWEB-L] New developments of a different sort
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Folks, This is a note to inform you that I'll be out of touch for at least a couple of days if not more. My wife took me to the doctor Monday after a round of cookie tossing and difficulty swallowing. The doctor said it was some sort of something I've never heard of, much less trying to pronounce. He said my neck glands were the most swollen he'd seen. He said it was not strep throat but some other something. I've been given some sort of drug to take care of that, plus asked to push fluids and rest along with alternating Advil and Tynelol every 3 hours. So this is written as a 'let you know my status' while I'm up for fluids. Last night my left eye closed for the second night and after getting it open 2 or 3 times only to have it close again in 15-20 minutes I gave up and went to bed. Early this AM my right ear woke me with pain close to what a kidney stone feels like. In other words one you can not get relief from no matter what - not fun in the least. So this PM I have yet another 2 pills a day to take. 21 pills a day is no fun. I realize that I owe some of you notes, but they will have to wait until I can see more clearly than one eye allows, for while my left eye is now open, it's weak, so I'm trying to 'save' it for going to work, hopefully tomorrow unless my wife over-rules me... While I care deeply for the Project, I care for my health more. Tim
