    1. (Resend) - Update On Emmons County NDGenWeb
    2. Mike Peterson
    3. Duh - It would help if I provided the URL ! - http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndemmons/ ---- Although I was gone a good four weeks since I took over the Emmons County NDGenWeb site, we are moving right along. Our visits to the site are increasing and I'm starting to receive more contributions from volunteers for the site; in fact, now I have a "Things To Do" waiting list. We've received some queries and our surname list is growing so if you have anything at all which would contribute to the Emmons County NDGenWeb project, such as obituaries, biographies, pictures, history, and so on, please contact me and we'll arrange to get it on the site. My goal is to double (at least) the monthly average number of visitors to Emmons County over the next year. Can you help? Sincerely, Mike Peterson NDGenWeb Emmons County Coordinator geanie@cox.net

Any advice you'd have would be appreciated, Michelle -- I'm doing the best I can to build the page, but (as you can tell by looking at my county pages) I'm no expert at design. I do prefer a plain page to one that has lots of bells and whistles. In my experience, I've found that many researchers have older computers and want info -- not flashy stuff or something that's graphics intensive. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have an attractive page... I did manage to create an image map so we can point and click to whatever county from a map on the main page. Took many hours to code the coordinates by hand... *whew* If anyone finds any 'oopses' on that map, let me know and I'll fix them... BTW, in all the hecticness of the last few days, Michelle, I neglected to say "Welcome aboard" so I say it now! :-) ~Lee S. King ND CC and ASC

    3. Joe- As a newly appointed ASC, I'd be interested on your take of my duties. Obviously, I didn't get much of an opportunity to learn the job.... On my Barnes page, I have an icon of a wild prairie rose....but no pictures, yet. What would you think about a discussion of some format updates to the State page? Thanks! 3. I have been asked by the Board to act as temporary SC for ND and have agreed to do so until an election, under the direction of the Project Election Committee (EC), is held within 60 days to allow you to select an SC of your choice. I will let you know when the EC opens the nomination period and hope everyone will participate in this selection process. In keeping with the desire of most of you, politics will be kept off this list. Any additional information about this can be obtained by contacting your Board representative or contact me privately and I will obtain the information for you. I am available to help anyone in any way in maintaining their pages or answering questions so please don't hesitate to contact me or one of the ASCs. 3. Here's the latest poop - The NC/AB are going to illegally ignore the USGenWeb Bylaws and create their own rules - by forcing a SC election in North Dakota - It's much like the President in Washington, along with his cabinet telling you - your Governor did something we didn't like - ie he called us on the carpet for illegal acts and we can't have folks telling us we're wrong - so we're tossing out your Governor - putting in our hand selected replacement and then perhaps you can vote for someone who'll please us. If not, we'll do it again until we approve of your choice. I suspect that they will declare me not eligible to run - so even if you want me, they are going to tell you tough cookies - we're gonna help you decide on someone else. Word is that former resigned ASC Joe Z - CC Pembina and Ramsey - will be interim SC. To that end I've removed my work from the State site. I refuse to let the nationals steal my work. If this continues - the national folks will increase their control, for in their proposed bylaws - they want to tell you how to design your page, where to place the logos and so forth so that sites can be cookie cutter look alikes. I've enjoyed being your State Coordinator and would hope that each of you continue to build your sites for the visitors to your North Dakota counties. I shall continue with my sites whether or not they will be a member of the once upon a time USGenWeb Project. For those in cahoots with the National organization - shame on you. 3. In thinking what is best for the Project - I turned over the domains .net and .org to two different AB members in trust this afternoon after overcoming a wicked set of instructions to do so on the .net domain. I'm tired of this mess. I want to go back to building pages. Now it appears the NC is playing politics despite this, showing on the Who's Who page at http://www.usgenweb.com/ that the North Dakota project only has a ASC - Lee King. If this concerns you, please write to the National Coordinator stating your thoughts about the matter. I know most of you don't like politics and don't want to be bothered by such, but it seems the NC/AB will now tell you, whether you like it or not who will or won't be your State Coordinator. 1. Re: [NDGENWEB-L] Fw: An Invitation
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. This note is in regard to politics in the USGenWeb Project - but since it may effect you here in NDGenWeb, you may wish to read it. =============================================================== In case you are wondering why Lee sent the Fw: An Invitation to the list instead of me - the National Coordinator has unsubbed me from the State-Coordinator's list, which he has not allowed me to freely post to since December 2002, because at that point in time, I disagreed with him on policy matters, when I was on the AB. Even after I left the AB, he never lifted his sanction against me. When I wrote him earlier this year if he would lift the sanction, he said 'I'll think about it.' Never another word on this since that time. The current NC asked the Advisory Board to label me MNIGS (so I couldn't run against him in the elections about to come up in July) and so he could further try to take other privileges from me - under an authority that doesn't exist in the Project Bylaws. Upon that action, even though the NC stated that such action would not effect my status in the various xxgenweb state projects - the Wisconsin SC delinked my 2 county sites there - that I had since 1996 and 1999. It is the researchers of Wisconsin, that come via the WIGenWeb page that suffer, for with search engines and the county mailing lists, the sites will still be known. The disagreement comes over the domains usgenweb.org and usgenweb.net for which I've paid the freight on for 3 years and 2 years respectively. When he became NC two years ago, I was in the process of paying the annual fees on the domains. Since I was paying the freight, he allowed one of the domains to be assigned to me, the other to himself. When the time came again in 2003 to renew, he had moved, left no new address or phone number, thus I had no valid address to put down for him. Even after the AB illegally declared me MNIGS, one of the AB members approached me to see if an arrangement could be set up to effect the transfer of the domains and to ask what I wanted in return. Since the current NC has since early in his administration in September, 2002, steadily eroded the rights of members to voice complaints, disagree with his administration, I felt this was a chance to get some of those rights returned to the membership. I asked that I be reinstated in Wisconsin since the SC acted with prejudice towards me. I asked to be granted the same privileges that every other ASC/SC in the Project is allowed - the right to speak freely on the State-Coord list. I asked to be subscribed to the project list USGW-Discuss, from which the moderator (WIGenWeb SC) had removed me supposedly for life. This was denied as I was told the AB would not force a SC to take back a CC they had dismissed. I asked to be left alone in GAGenWeb where the AB/NC has been trying for the last two years to harass me out of office. The domain .net was xfered to the AB member in trust, so that at some point in time they could xfer it on to the NC for under AB motions 04-07 and 04-11 they state the NC is to be the admin contact. Period. Late in the negotiations, the AB trust member asked for total control of the domain. As that was not part of the agreement as I understood it, nor had it been mentioned prior to that, I balked. Due to some misunderstanding of what I had turned over and what the AB person was talking about - the AB member vamoosed from the agreement. I wrote the NC that as far as I was concerned, the agreement still stood. I asked if another AB member could stand in trust instead. The NC stated that would suffice. I replied, ok, that I would wait to hear if the AB member would serve in that capacity, then went to bed thinking things were progressing. The next day at my lunch break, I read where the NC stated the negotiations had failed. I wrote him again, asking what was going on as the last I heard he had agreed and that we were waiting to see if the AB member would serve in the trust capacity. He stated that our emails crossed in cyberspace - fair enough. The AB member agreed, the transfer started again to a new person, address and so forth. When the AB member saw that the domain was in fact transferred to their name, they wrote the NC that the transfer had taken place. That was last weekend. On Tuesday or Wednesday, the NC wrote me again saying that the agreement was off. So I wrote him again asking him what was going on - since I had completed the first part of the agreement. No reply to date. In the meantime while all this was going on - an orderly transfer taking place, the NC and cronies have taken one step after another against me and my ASCs in Georgia. So, we wait to see what next action the NC will do. I have completed the first part of the agreement. =============== On another topic. With Joe's resignation this week, Lee King moves up to first ASC. I thank Joe for his long and patient service as my ASC in North Dakota. To give any other member a chance to be second ASC, please write me privately if you would be interested in this position. Tim
