    2. Over the years I have been using the following site for Fayette County, Iowa. Would it be possible for ND to develop 4 pages like these so we have a standard entry method? Fayette County and I believe all of Iowa. _http://www.rootsweb.com/~iafayett/_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~iafayett/)

    1. Census Changes
    2. Mike Peterson
    3. I could use some advice. I received an email from someone who browses the web site in family research. He found an ancestor (success) but he wanted to let me know that in both the 1900 and 1910 census, the surname is not spelled correctly and asked to get them corrected. Both of these files are in USGenWeb Archives - I link to them. I sent an email to the transcriber asking him if he could change it. The email bounced. I've run across this problem before and once tried to have one corrected with no success. It seems the census records that are out there, some in various places, from my experience, never get updated. Am I assuming correctly. Would anyone wish to suggest something here. The last thing I really want to do is to go back to this fella and say tough luck; no change possible. I do intend to respond to him; he deserves a response. But I am really struggling with what to say. Sincerely, Mike Emmons CC

    3. Heads up folks -- the NDSU Library has rearranged its website. Links to places like the Naturalization Records, 1885 Territorial Census, and the North Dakota Biography Index all need to be updated. I have some of the links on the state and general resources page if you want to snag the URLs from there: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndgenweb/resources.htm ~Lee S. King SC NDGenWeb Project

    3. Thanks for the suggestions, Mike! I agree that I don't want to burden CCs with lots of requirements, but things like the CC's name and current email addy and a search engine are common sense items that CCs should understand are necessary, yes? Another is checking and updating links. That should be a given, I would think. Sites come and go, as we all know, and often folks rearrange their websites. Links need to be checked. I've been on some sites looking for some elusive ancestors in New England and saw some fantastic looking websites (going by their names anyway) but the links were broken. :-( I'm sure many of you have been there, done that -- the feeling of frustration isn't fun. ~Lee S. 3. Hi all! Yeah, it's me again. Go ahead -- roll your eyes. LOL Just wanted to remind you that if you list or link to the adjacent counties to your own, that you need to update those. The new counties are: Benson ndbenso2 Cavalier ndcaval2 Dunn nddunn2 Golden Valley ndgolde2 Hettinger ndhetti2 Logan ndlogan2 McIntosh ndmcint2 Pierce ndpierc2 Richland ndrichl2 Traill ndtrail2 And don't forget, we now have two Ward sites. You can either provide a link to both, or merely link to the Ward navigation page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndgenweb/ward.htm Also, some of you include the name and email address of the SC on your page -- that needs to be updated too. :-) ~Lee S. 3. Although I frown on laying down a lot of requirements on CCs I don't have a problem with the requirements in the below URL. I think we should be consistent with requirements because we do belong to an organization and they do provide us plenty of web space and in many cases tools to help us. I don't think requirements however should interfere with each coordinator's desire to create web sites they envision as helping their county researchers. I suggest in addition to the below URL these standards: 1] That the USGenWeb and the NDGenWeb logos/links be displayed at the top of the home page. 2] That each home page have the Coordinator's name and current email link. 3] That each site have a search engine. No matter how well we design our web sites there is no better tool than a search utility for researchers in my mind. Now days there are three or four freebie search engines and they provide all the tools for getting it installed on our web sites. Very easy to use with tremendous payback to the researcher.
