Matthews, 62, of Mount Carmel Church Road, Yadkinville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1945, in Yadkin County to Albert Pete and Bertha H. Matthews. Mr. Matthews was the owner and operator of Master Haircutters in Yadkinville and was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. He was an avid bowler and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Michael Matthews. Surviving are his mother of the home; his brothers and sisters, Peggy (F.H.) Nichols of Lenoir; Jimmy Wayne (Jane) Matthews of Yadkinville; Nancy (Gene) Gilmore of Jonesville; and Betty Lou Matthews, Jackie Matthews, Rick (Sue) Matthews and Libby Matthews, all of Yadkinville; his special uncle, Milford "Uncle Bud" Matthews; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Matthews' family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct.! 13, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in Gentry Family Chapel, with the Rev. Bud Brawley officiating. Full military honors will be given by Yadkin VFW Post 10346.
