Mr. Mackie was born May 9, 1952, in Yadkinville, the son of Grady Martin Mackie and Lestine Lawrence Mackie. He was a member for 20 years of Oakhurst Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He taught distributive education at Asheboro High School, but since 1979, he was self-employed as an insurance salesman. A member of Asheboro Masonic Lodge 699, member of the Scottish Rite and Oasis Shrine, he was also a past president of the Asheboro Civitan Club and an Assistant Boy Scout Leader of Troop 527, member of the Arrow Vigil and holder of the Wood Badge. He is survived by his wife, Angela Keith Mackie; a daughter, Leslie Elizabeth Mackie of Charlotte; and a son, Daniel Martin Mackie and wife Heather of Charlotte; parents, Grady and Lestine "Bill" Mackie of Yadkinville; a brother, Andrew L. Mackie of Yadkinville; and several nieces and nephews. The memorial servic! e to celebrate his life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 South Fayetteville St., Asheboro, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Masonic rites will be given also. The family will receive friends immediately after the memorial service at the church fellowship hall.
