Mr. Ackers was born in Raleigh County, W.Va., on April 6, 1924, to Jesse James Hatcher and Leona Virginia Farley Hatcher. He was a retired employee of the Atomic Energy Commission, of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Lacy, Edward, Kenneth and John Hatcher, a twin brother who failed to survive. Surviving are a brother; Daniel Hatcher of Winston-Salem; sisters Rosetta Phillips of Lexington and Mary West of Yadkinville; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel, with the Rev. Billy Sloop officiating. Burial will follow in Byerly Family Cemetery on Phillips Road, Lexington, with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Thursday night, O! ct. 4, at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington, and at other times at the home of his nephew, Darrell West, 142 Archie Lane, Lexington.
