He was born Oct. 17, 1930, in Yadkin County to Henry and Thelma Lashmit. He was a member of Huntsville Baptist Church and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1956. He took his father' s trade as a carpenter and cabinetmaker. He enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves, and NASCAR racing. Mr. Lashmit was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Burton Lashmit, Robert Lewis "R.L." Lashmit and Allen Wayne Lashmit; and two sisters, Mary Roberta Hendrix and Shirley Ann Gray. Surviving are his two sons, Tommy (Lori) Lashmit and Keith (Christina) Lashmit; a daughter, Melissa (Donnie) Knight; four grandchildren, Joseph Knight, Lyle Lashmit, Beth Lashmit and Luke Knight; a stepgrandson, Joe Tilley; two brothers, William Lashmit and Harold (Jerleene) Lashmit; seven sisters, Ruth Baity! , Louise Groce, Ella Grey (Donald) Laymon, Frances (Norman) Allen, Dottie (James) Shore, Jean (Thurmond) Phillips and Alice Pickett; numerous nephews and nieces; and a special friend and ex-wife, Margaret Ann. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Huntsville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Shaw and the Rev. Grady Trivette officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 3, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 208 N. Jackson St., Yadkinville, NC 27055, or Huntsville Baptist Church Building or Cemetery Fund, 4901 Courtney/Huntsville Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to give a special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice and Dr. John Williams and his staff for the loving care giving to Mr. Lashmit during his illness.
