Mrs. Williams was born Aug. 11, 1929, in Yadkin County to the late Lee and Minnie Driver Hutchens. She was a 1952 graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College. Mrs. Williams was a retired teacher from the Yadkin County school system. Betty Jo loved teaching, and especially teaching children how to read. She was a member of Pilot View Friends Meeting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. Smith Williams; son, Ted Columbus Williams. Surviving are her children, Dixie Jo (Tom) Williams-Kilby, H. Smith (Goldie) Williams Jr.; grandchildren, Ethan Thomas Smith Kilby, William John Noah Kilby, Anna Kathryn Pearl Kilby, Caroline DeAnn Williams, Katey Smith Williams, Tate Columbus Williams (mother, Julie W. Groce); sisters, Hazel (Donald) Casstevens, Linda Williams; brother, Jimmy (Patty) Hutchens; sister-in-law, Kathryn W. Gaither; and ! numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Pilot View Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Nelson Puffenbarger and the Rev. Kenny Gooden officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. before the service Monday, Dec. 10, at Pilot View Friends Meeting. Family requests no flowers but memorials may be made to Pilot View Friends Meeting, 3225 Pilot View Church Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055 or Ted C. Williams Memorial Fund, 4601 Six Forks Road, Suite 524, Raleigh, NC 27609. The family would like to thank the caregivers, Dorothy, Pat, Jewel, Peggy and the 9th floor nurses at Forsyth Medical Center for all the love and care shown to Mrs. Williams during her sickness.
