Odell was a loving father and grandfather to his family and a devoted friend to those who knew him. He was born Aug. 2, 1930, in Yadkin County to the late Dewey Admiral and Mary Odessa Brown Draughn. He attended High Point College, where he became a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and the University of Miami. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving for five years during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Draughn was the owner of Allen Motors which he operated in Hollywood, Fla., and Yadkinville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret Brandon S. Draughn, on Nov. 5, 2004. Surviving are his daughters, Jenny Lynn (Keith) Schomburg of Apex and Julie Ann (Richard) Jennings of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Meredith Schomburg, Noah Schomburg, Kayla Jennings and Katherine Jen! nings; a sister, Mozelle Adams of Jonesville; and several nieces, nephews and extended family. His funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Center United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Harrill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The family would like to express their appreciation to special friends and caregivers Donna and Calvin Snow of Yadkinville and Katrina McDowell with Mountain Valley Hospice for their continued devotion and loving care given to Mr. Draughn during his time of illness. In addition, thanks to Sabrina Stokes, caregiver. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
