Sarah Josephine Starling, 92, of East Bend passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at Yadkin Nursing Care Center in Yadkinville. She was born in Yadkin County on Oct. 30, 1915, to Joseph Sidney and Sarah Agnes Wall Choplin. Mrs. Starling was a lifetime member of Friendship Baptist church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to all of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Clifton Starling; two sons, Alvin Starling and Don Starling; and a daughter, Dorothy Jo Starling. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (Rick) Smitherman of East Bend and Darlene Cox and fiance Dustin Stewart of Yadkinville; six grandchildren, Diane (Perry) Edwards, Johnny (Sandy) Starling, Rodney (Jennifer) Smitherman, Candy (Kent) Shumate! , LaDonna (Mark) Williams and Melinda Adcock; nine great-grandchildren, Taylor Edwards, Sarah and Emily Starling, Miah, Annah and Norah Smitherman, Jared and Corey Williams and Kenan Adcock; and two special daughters-in-law, Barbara Starling and Norma Starling Southard, both of East Bend. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chris Byrne and the Rev. Ray Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 4, at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 4744 Siloam Road, East Bend, NC 27018. The family would like to extend a special thank you and appreciation to Dr. Jerry Ziglar and the staff of Yadkin Nursing Care Center for the love, care and kindness shown to "Sarah Jo."
