She was born June 13, 1931, in Yadkin County to the late Talmadge Edward and Mary Lee Nicholson Byrd. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert Burgess, on May 5, 2007; and a brother, Edward Delmayne Byrd. She is survived by a daughter, Vicki (Craig) Hendrix of Pawleys Island, S.C. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev Heather Kilbourne and the Rev. Bill Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 27, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. E.W. Griffin of Jonesville Family Medical and the staff of the Alzheimer' s Unit at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Burgess family.
