About 135 persons, including several Confederate soldiers, were present on this his 69th birthday. A table was prepared under some large shade trees, which were arraned in such a manner as to make it seem that they had been set out on purpose for such an occasion as this. Rev William Myers, of Wilkes, an old friend and schoolmate of Mr Johnson, was the speaker of the day. When all was ready and the people had gathered around the table loaded with cakes, pies, chicken, etc,. he began in his entertaing way to congratulate Mr Johnson on the large number of friends that were present and then to give a short sketch of the family history. He said that this family of Johnsons came from Maryland, that Uncle Jackie Johnson (as he called him) had three sons, one of whom, Mr Jerry Johnson, became a minister in the M E Church, one, Mr H Johnson, father of Mr J C Johnson, was a farmer, and the other, Mr Warren Johnson, became a school teacher. Mr Myers said that Mr H Johnson, father of J C Johnson, spoke the greatest word that he had ever heard, that about fifty years ago he met him over here at the X Roads (Windsor's X Roads) and there he, Mr Johnson, spoke the words that tied him and his wife together and they never had got unfastened. After Mr Myers had finished speaking the people bowed their heads while he led them in a brief prayer. then we gathered nearer the table and begfan to unload it of some of its contents. After all had eaten, boxes containing cakes, pies, etc., were sent to some of the unfortunate ones, and we still had some to carry home for supper. A few hours were spent in social intercourse, making, altogether, a pleasant day to brighten our memory in future years.
