She was born Oct. 25, 1911, in Surry County to the late Clevo and Della Simpson Ashburn. Mrs. Hill was retired from Western-Electric with 22 years of service. She was a member of Pine Hill Friends Meeting and attended Mount Tabor United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley McKinley Hill; a daughter, Dorothy Holcomb; and a son, Harold Hill. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Helen Hill of Winston-Salem; a son-in-law, Frank Holcomb of Yadkinville; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Hill of Yadkinville; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Her funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Pine Hill Friends Meeting in Ararat, with the Rev. John Hackworth and the Rev. Michael Thames officiating. She will be in the meeting house 30 minutes before th! e service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, Nov. 14, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The family is very grateful for the care Alma received at Yadkin Nursing Center. A special thank you from the family to the 9th floor Palliative Care staff of Forsyth Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Hill Friends Cemetery Fund, 638 Eldora Road, Ararat, NC 27007.
