Mr. Hamby was born July 12, 1930, in Surry County to Ephraim Otis and Essie Holyfield Hamby. Mr. Hamby was a Veteran of the United States Army; he was a retired Auto Body Specialist and attended Christ Lutheran Church in Jonesville. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Lily Hamby. Survivors include: two daughters Tracy Hamby Hodge of Elkin, and Lynette Hamby Perrell of Boonville; one brother James Ralph Hamby and his wife Betty of Boonville; one sister Dorothy Hamby Carter of Elkin; two grandchildren Ephram Michael Hodge and Michael Perrell; two nieces Christine Huff and Gwen Washburn, and two nephews Michael Hamby and Kenneth Carter; also two special friends Bobby Lyon and Danny Lewis. Funeral service for Mr. Hamby will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marty Reece offici! ating. Burial will follow at Union Cross Church Cemetery. Graveside Military Honors will be provided by Yadkin County VFW Post 10346, of Sloan' s Mill Rd. Hamptonville, NC 27020. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 - 9 p.m., at Hodges Funeral Home, in Elkin. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030, or to donor' s choice for cancer research. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Yadkin Nursing Center.
