He was born February 5, 1936 in O' Toole County, West Virginia to the late Dock Bine and Edna Rorrer Holman. He was a member of West Yadkin Baptist Church and was a former Sunday School teacher and Deacon at Old Roaring River Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Ethelene Sparks Holman; daughters, Diane (T.R.) Marshall, Sharon (Eddie) Mabe, Teresa Holman, Robin (David) Cox; grandchildren, Richard (Kandi) Shaffner, Chris (Hannah) Shaffner, Kristy (Jeff) Brown, Courtney Cox, Brittany Cox; great grandchildren, Amanda Shaffner; step great grandchildren, Tiffany Trivette, Nathan Williams; sister, Judith (Bill) Cox; brother, Cecil (Teresa) Lewis; several nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7 at West Yadkin Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Bell, the Rev. Clint Branch, and the Rev. Charles Lethcoe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cem! etery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville. Flowers accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 North Bridge St., Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank Cathy Johnson and Anita Abbey of Mountain Valley Hospice for all of the love and care shown to Roy during his illness. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville is serving the Holman family.
