Mrs. Brown was born Jan. 27, 1950, in Shelby to the late O.V. and Beverly Hamrick. Claire was a musician and composer. She loved playing the piano and walking her dog. She graduated from Meredith College in 1972 with a degree in Spanish. She worked as a sales associate for Sears and Hecht' s and as a substitute teacher for Wake and Buncombe County schools. Surviving are her husband, David Ralph Brown; children Daniel Ralph (Julie) Brown and Paul Hamrick Brown; grandchildren Nicholas Brown and Ethan Brown; brother O.V. "Buddy" Hamrick III; and sister Linda Hamrick (Don) Jones. Her funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Boonville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jenny Stewart and the Rev. Daniel Brown. Burial will follow at Charity Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. S! unday, Jan. 13, before the service at Boonville United Methodist Church, and other times at her home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boonville United Methodist Church, 116 N Carolina Ave., Boonville, NC 27011, for the choir or building fund.
