He was born in Yadkin County, on Jan. 11, 1923, to Eugene and Etta Matthews Davis. He was a member of Pilot View Friends Meeting and a former member of Friendship Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Davis was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired brick mason, carpenter and farmer and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Grace Davis; two brothers, Arzie Davis and Dalton Davis; and a stepson, Robbie Brown. Surviving are his wife, Inez Brown Davis of the home; three children, Steve Gray (Norma) Davis of Boonville, Rhonda (Ray) Vestal of East Bend and Lisa Davis (Bobby) Wishon of Yadkinville; four stepchildren, Brenda (Jay) Meenach of Florida, Glenda (Mike) Booker of Elkin, Loretta (Haywood) Barker of East Bend and Karen (Keith) Googe of! Winston-Salem; two sisters, June Holcomb of Yadkinville and Peggy York of East Bend; a brother, Jackie Davis of East Bend; two special friends, Maye Adams of Boonville and Calvin Hutchens of East Bend; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 29, at Friendship Baptist Church, with the Revs. Nelson Puffenbarger, Ray Davis and Jake Penley officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon' s International, P.O. Box 2451, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
