Mr. Mitchell was born March 13, 1956, to Seth and Nola Mitchell in Surry County. He was the fire chief at Buck Shoals Fire Department and was a member and a deacon of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Seth Thomas Mitchell; and brother Larry Wayne Mitchell. Surviving are his wife, Gail Evans Mitchell; sons Matthew C. Mitchell and Brandon Mitchell; mother Nola Wishon Mitchell; brothers Dean (Geraldine) Mitchell and Ronnie (Patricia) Mitchell; two nephews; and a niece. His funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Holbrook and the Rev. Steve Faw officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 1, 2008, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The family would like to thank Buck Shoals Fire! Department, Windsor Cross Road Ruritans, Shiloh Baptist Church and all of the community for all of the love and care shown to Michael and his family during his illness.
