She fought a difficult but courageous eight-year battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig' s disease. Mrs. Edwards was born Feb. 11, 1932, in Yadkin County to Virgil Weatherman and Dora Southard Weatherman. A member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, she was retired from the Davidson County school system. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her parents; a stepfather, J.D. Cheek; a son, Billy Joe Edwards, on Aug. 3, 2006; a brother, Jack Weatherman; and two sisters, Gay Ashley and Frances Wilson. Surviving are her husband, Willie Freddy Edwards of the home; a son, Gene Edwards, and wife Lavon of Thomasville; two daughters, Debbie Beck and husband Johnny and Linda Jarrett and husband Chris, all of Lexington; five grandchildren, Brenton Jarrett and companion Roxanna Monday; Greg Jarrett and wife Shannon; David Beck and wife Jennifer; Chip ! Edwards and wife Erin B., and Erin Edwards; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sallie Ashley of Jonesville. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Burt Williams officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 30, at Davidson Funeral Home, and other times at the home.
