"Ras" Bryant, age 85, of Pat Nixon Road, State Road, passed away Monday, June 2, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bryant was born August 12, 1922 in Yadkin County to Charlie Frank & Lillie Navada Martin Bryant. Mr. Bryant was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where he served several years as Sunday School Superintendent and was a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha W. Bryant; a grandson, Jeremiah C. Bryant; a brother, Ottie Bryant and a sister, Ola Stanley. Survivors include: a son, Don Bryant and wife Gina of Thurmond; a daughter, Sonya Mounce and husband Barry of State Road; three grandchildren, Brian Mounce and wife Jennifer, Josh Bryant all of State Road, Jacob Bryant and wife Ashley of Mt. Airy; five grandchildren, Jillian Mounce, Lydia Mo! unce, Camille Mounce, Alexander Mounce, Ashton Theriault. The funeral will be Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Wood and the Rev. Finley McCoury officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. Mr. Bryant will lie instate thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, t memorials may be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church Youth Group199 Mining School Road, State Road, NC 28676.
