She was born in Wilkes County on Dec. 5. 1931, to the late Jesse Burris and Ethel Garris Hemric. She retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company in Sept. 1997 after 30 years of service. She was a long time member of Shoaly Branch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers: Dwight E. Hemric and Conard Hemric. She is survived by two sons: Kenneth W. Carter of Monroe and Jesse C. Carter and wife Jamie, of Elkin. Also surviving are three granddaughters: Bonnie C. Carter of Charlotte, Cassandra L. "Cassie" Carter and Krystal B. Carter, both of Elkin. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at Thanks to Calvary Baptist Church with Brother Steve Mahaffey and Brother Kenny Wood officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Foundation, 180 Parkwood Drive, Elkin, Nc 28621 or Forsyth Regional Cancer Center, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Shelburne and the staff at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, the staff at Tender Touch Home Care and the staff of Yadkin County Home Health Care for their faithful care.
