She was born May 28, 1916, in Yadkin County to the late Leopold Evan and Leona Hutchens Doub. She was a homemaker, a member of the Baltimore Extension Club, a member of the Ladies Forbush Fire Department (Ladies Auxiliary) and was a member of Forbush Baptist Church. She loved working in her yard, flowers and was a basket maker. She loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Issac Gwynn Shermer Jr.; infant brother Arnold Doub; brother Howard Doub; and sisters Irene Long, Ola Matthews Pilcher and Nell Matthews. She is survived by a daughter, Linda (James) Joyce of Winston-Salem; a son, Larry E. (Jolene) Shermer of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Stephen (Crystal) Joyce of Winston-Salem; Susan Smith of Kernersville; and Jason (Lisa) Shermer of Denver, Colo.; and fo! ur great-grandchildren, Sarah Joyce, Stephen Joyce, Dylan Smith and Ryan Smith. Her funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Forbush Baptist Church, with the Rev Bobby Reece officiating. The body will be in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 15, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forbush Baptist Church General Fund, 3917 Old U.S. 421 Highway, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Shermer family. Published in the Winston-Salem Journal on 2/15/2008.
