Murphy, 88, of East Bend, passed away Friday, December 5, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Yadkin County on January 31, 1920 to Thomas A. and Eva Stallings Murphy. Charlie was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 33 years of service and worked at Huff Funeral Home for several years. Charlie served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the East Bend American Legion Post 336. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great -grandson, Cameron Michael Pardue; his sisters, Ethel Murphy, Betty Williams, Mary Jones, and Avonell Yokley; and his brothers, Bruce Murphy, Henry Murphy, Paul Murphy, and Thad Murphy. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Edna Beane Murphy of the home; three daughters, Inez Webb of East Bend, Linda (Bill) Hensley of Lexington, and Phyllis (Chris) Sparks of East Bend; five grandchildren, Robby Webb, Robin (Tim) Holder, Christie Sparks, ! Kim (Mike) Pardue, and Melissa Sparks; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Holder and Maddie Pardue. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 4 p.m. at the Shady Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nancy Kroll and the Rev. Robert Harris officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 to lie instate. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Huff Funeral Home is serving the Murphy family.
