He was born, August 23, 1929 in Yadkin County to the late John and Mamie Sales Carter. Mr. Carter was retired from Unifi Inc. and a faithful member of Clarks Memorial Baptist Church. He was a dedicated member of South Surry Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Earnestine Dobson Carter on May 31, 2002; a daughter-in-law, Renee Carter; four brothers, Ernest, John, Grady and Paul Carter. Two sisters Florence Porter and Hallie William. Surviving are his beloved children, Pete Franklin Carter, and friend, Sonya of Ararat, NC; Alice Blake Martinez and friend, Willie, Mt. Airy; Kathleen Priscilla Terry, and friend Bruce, Dobson; Grandchildren, Crystal Lopez, Burley Butcher, Lewis Butcher, Pete Carter, Jr., Siovon Butcher, Tiffany Carter, John Carter, Lorenzo Terry, Sierra Escobar, Adrianna Terry, Jesus Martinez, Marcus Calderon; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Satterfield; His funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at Clarks Memorial Baptist Church by Rev. Kenneth Hairston. Mr. Carter will lie in-state from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
