Byrd, age 88, of 3008 Mt. View Dr. Jonesville, died on November 27, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Byrd was born on July 6, 1920 in Wilkes County to the late Luther and Neelie Fields Byrd. Mr. Byrd was an Oil Delivery Man in the Elkin area for almost 50 years and an active member and Deacon of Arlington First Baptist Church for over 50 years. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Estelle Freeman Byrd; a daughter, Patricia Byrd Brandon; and his grandson, Timothy Byrd Brandon; and eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by his grandchildren: Amy Brandon of Yadkinville, Wes and Jennifer Brandon of High Point, and Mark and Brandy Brandon of Winston-Salem and by his former son-in-law, Thomas (Kaye) Brandon of Winston-Salem, and a sister, Nell Byrd Beane of Elkin; five great-grandchildren; Brandon Ford, Anna Reavis, Madilyn Brandon, Olivia Brandon, Samuel Brandon; and several nieces and nephews.! Funeral Services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., November 30, 2008 at Arlington First Baptist Church by the Rev. Flake Mason. Mr. Byrd will lie-in-state from 1:30-2:00 p.m. prior to services. Deacons will serve as Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. The Byrd Family will receive friends Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Arlington First Baptist Church from 4 to 6 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Arlington First Baptist Church, 245 N. Main Street, Jonesville, NC 28642. Johnson Funeral Home of Elkin is serving the Byrd Family.
