Sparks, 89, of The Carriage Club of Charlotte, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Thursday, July 31, 2008, after a brief illness. He was born December 30, 1918 in Yadkinville, NC to the late Calvin D. Sparks, Sr. and the late Minnie Vestal Sparks. Prior to the last six years, Mr. Sparks lived in Winston-Salem, working at A&P and retiring from North Carolina Baptist Hospital. He loved gardening and reading the Bible and was a member of First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He will be remembered by family and friends for the many flowers and camellias he planted and shared. Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Palmer Sparks, also of The Carriage Club Healthcare; a daughter, Bonnie S. Parrish, and husband, Vernon R. Parrish, Jr. of Charlotte; and two grandchildren, Amanda L. Parrish and Ray M. Parrish. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by a sister, Doris M. Sparks, and brothers, Donald R. Sparks and R. Edward Sparks! . Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, August 3, with Dr. David Hughes officiating, at Salem Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Street in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Parklawn Memorial Gardens with a prayer by Lori Carter, Parish Nurse. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor' s choice. The family would like to thank the staff of The Carriage Club Healthcare for their dedication, Hospice and Palliative Care for their watchful concern, and Martha Florez for her devoted care.
