Roy had battled with diabetes for several years, which had led him to early retirement, from Lexington Furniture in Mocksville, where he was employed for 35 years. Roy was a wonderful husband, father, grandpaw, PawPaw Roy and brother. Roy was a very hard worker and got his enjoyment out of life by producing a large garden each year for family and friends; this continued on for several years even though he was not in the best of health. Roy was born Sept. 19, 1936, to Roby and Ida Hutchens. Roy was preceded in death by both his parents, Roby and Ida Hutchens; brothers Raymond and RF Hutchens; a sister, Mary Ruth Hutchens; and a nephew, Edwin Gray Hutchens. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Sylvia Ireland Hutchens of the home; his only child, Roy Dwayne Hutchens, and his wife, Kathy,! of Pfafftown; five grandchildren Tabatha (Dusty) Burton of Dobson, Mitzi Hutchens of Boonville; Melissa (Ed) Brown of Yadkinville; Ricky Royal of Pfafftown; and Robert Royal of Winston-Salem; five great-grandchildren all of which he loved dearly, Cheyenne and Hailey Brown of Yadkinville; Codie Royal of Boonville, Devin Burton of Dobson; and Damien Royal of Winston-Salem; brothers Rufus Hutchens of Yadkinville; Romie (Wilda) Hutchens of Jonesville; sisters Ethel Myers of Yadkinville; Betty Lou (Tony) Couch of Yadkinville; and Eyvonne (Dennis) Felts of Yadkinville; sister-in-law Lacy Hutchens; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Roy will be greatly missed by all of us. Our special thanks goes out to all the following: the staff at Universal Health Care in King for all their care and support, during Roy' s illness, for the past three years; to the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center; and to the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. His fune! ral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at Gentry Family Chap el, with the Rev. Bill Jenkins and Dr. Phil Beavers officiating. Burial will follow at Turners Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 17, at the funeral home in Yadkinville. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Hutchens family.
