Mr. Pickett was born April 22, 1943, in Surry County to Glenn Monroe and Pearl Nicks Pickett. Mr. Pickett was owner/operator of Pickett Plumbing and was of the Baptist faith. Jim was active with children' s sports, youth baseball and Starmount Athletic Department where he was a fan of Starmount football. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, James Walter "Buddy" Billings; and a brother, Donald Eugene Pickett. Survivors include his wife, Betty Billings Pickett of the home; two sons, Donald Glenn Pickett and wife Deda Winebarger of State Road and Jonathan Wayne Pickett and wife Angela Harp of Jonesville; a brother, Roger Pickett, and wife Maxine of Jonesville; a sister, Helen Wooten of Yadkinville; five grandchildren, Jacob Oliver Pickett, Raechel Harris, Ike Winebarger and wife Daniell! e, Dylan Hall and Tyler Hall; and his Labrador retriever, Chock. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Roger Pickett, Dr. Jerry Sizemore and Brother Ricky Burcham officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, May 16, at the funeral home.
