She was born in Yadkin County on Aug. 8, 1920, to Cleveland "Clee" and Alice Spear Lane. Mrs. Smith was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clayton Smith; son Buddy Harold Smith; brothers Woodrow and Luther Lane; and sisters Opal Stoltz and Maggie McBride. Surviving are sisters Lucy Beane of East Bend and Marie Lineberry of Winston-Salem; a very special niece, Carol (Jerry) Williams of Pfafftown; niece Anna Lee (Johnny) Nicholson of East Bend; niece and caregiver Carolyn Minor of East Bend; sister-in-law Norma Lane of Yadkinville; friend and caregiver Mary Robbins of Boonville; devoted cousin Leroy (Pansy) Spear of East Bend; phone buddy Aunt Vina Brann of East Bend; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law of Madison; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May! 6, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Patty Choplin officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, May 5, at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to Shady Grove United Methodist Church, c/o Patty Davis, 4933 Shady Grove Church Road, East Bend, NC 27018. The family may be contacted at the home of Anna Lee Nicholson. The family would like to thank the staff at Gentiva Home Health Care, especially caregivers Bryte Bowers and Lynn Hall.
