Mr. Gentry was born September 13, 1921 in Yadkin County to Clarke & Murlie Pendry Gentry. Mr. Gentry was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Gentry and Sherman Gentry. Survivors include: his wife, Sybil Church Gentry of the home; a son, Stephen James Gentry and wife Ethel of Hays; two daughters, Barbara Gentry Woodruff and husband Johnny of Boonville, Debra Gentry Blevins of Raleigh and fianc? Dave Clark; a brother, Miles Gray Gentry and wife Nancy of Concord; a sister, Fern Johnson of Greensboro; four grandsons, one step grandchild; seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2008, at White Plains Baptist Church, with Rev. Willi! am Souther and Rev. Monroe Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Gentry will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Hodges Funeral home, in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hugh Chatham Nursing Center Animal Fund, 700 Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin, NC 28621.
