Ruth was born in Yadkin County, North Carolina on April 7, 1922. In recent years, she was a resident of Springmoor Retirement Community where she had many friends. Ruth met H.L. while working as a secretary at Noland Company in Winston-Salem in 1949. Shortly thereafter, they were married. They lived in Winston-Salem for 48 years. Both worked at Noland Company, Ruth as a secretary, until retirement. They had two children, Wayne and Lisa. Ruth and H.L. moved to Raleigh to Springmoor in 2002. H. L. passed away in 2005. Ruth made friends wherever she went and was dearly loved by many. She was like a mother to her children' s friends, most especially Ann and Mary Louise Pearce who lost their mother when they were young. She was an avid gardener, reader and bridge player, and loved animals, especially her cat, Kirby. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Lillian, Hazel and Pete. Surviving are ! her son, Wayne Maxwell and wife Ardith of Mt. Airy; daughter Lisa Kane and husband George of Raleigh; grandchildren, Ashley Maxwell, Hardy Maxwell and Jennifer Maxwell; and great grandchildren, Taylor and Turner Bowman. A funeral service for Mrs. Maxwell will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Frank Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with the Rev. Ty Talton officiating. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolda Road Chapel. The family would like to express our most sincere gratitude to the staffs of Rex Hospital and Springmoor Clinic and Health Center for the compassion and excellent care they provided Ruth during her illness and hospitalization. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 524 Irving Street N.W., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Springmoor Endowment Fund.
