She was born April 17, 1925 in Wilkes County to the late Dallas S. and Vernice Martin Ingram. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Billie Vestal, of Kernersville. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Matoaka Ann Gentry; and her father, Carl Gentry, Jr, both of Yadkinville; a sister, Kathryn Whisnant of Morganton, NC; and several nieces and a nephew. Mrs. Gentry was a graduate of Jonesville High School, Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Morganton, NC, and she received her Operating Room Technique at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and at City Hospital, in Baltimore, MD. She then returned to Hoots Memorial Hospital in Yadkinville as Operating Room Supervisor with 32 years of service. Being a part of the Music Department at Center United Methodist Church was a very special part of her life, and she retired with 42 years of service as the organist,! and was pianist at Yadkinville Presbyterian Church for several years. She participated in several civics organizations and was an avid golfer. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Center Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Martin officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Chris Lumley, Neil Wright, Tom Helms, Jamie Williard, Stephen Evans, and Ronnie Vestal. The family requests that in lieu of flowers and food, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 101 Technology Lane Blvd., Suite 201, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. To Chris, mother always considered you "special" and she always knew that you would be there when she needed a "Mr. Fix-it" around the house.
