"J.V." Hutchens, 81, of East Bend passed away Tuesday April 15, 2008, at his home. He was born in Yadkin County on April 17, 1926, to Guy Robert and Viola Smith Hutchens. Mr. Hutchens was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Mr. Hutchens retired from Western Electric/AT&T after 40 years of service. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. His hobbies included farming and gardening, and he had a special love for animals, in particular his horses and cows. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margie C. Hutchens; brother Robert Hutchens; and a special friend, Ruth Hutchens. Surviving are his daughter, Susan (John) Kloc, and grandchildren Lauren and Tyler Kloc of Belews Creek; son Ron (Rosie) Hutchens and grandchildren Lyndsey and Matthew Hutchens of East Bend; brother Edgar Hutchens of East Bend; and special friends Earl Wharton, Bobby Faircloth and Bill Dull. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Enon Bapt! ist Church, with the Rev. Mark Elmore officiating. The body will be in the church from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, April 17, at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. Memorials may be made to Enon Baptist Church, 6321 E. Old U.S. 421 Highway, East Bend, NC 27018, or Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
