She was born Sept. 7, 1918, in Surry County to the late John Franklin and Mallie Doby Hemmings. Mrs. Hale was a graduate of Old Town High School. She was a member of New Hope Church of Christ in Winston-Salem but attended Shacktown Church of Christ since moving to Yadkinville. She was retired from Western Electric. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Arthur Hale, on Oct. 31, 1977; daughter Brenda Kaye on Jan. 5, 1956; and brothers J.D. Hemmings, Perry Hemmings and Herman Hemmings. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Jean Hartman, and husband Ed of Yadkinville; sister Lewana Huffman; brother Clinton Hemmings; and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville, with the Rev. Lanny Hemmings and Brother Ricky McCollum officiating. Burial will foll! ow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service Tuesday, March 11, at the funeral home in Yadkinville. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Cancer Services Inc., 3175 Maplewood Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to thank the staff of Yadkin Nursing Care Center and Dr. Ziglar for all of the love and care shown to Mrs. Hale.
