God sent his angels to escort our mom to her eternal home with Him on Monday, March 3, 2008. With her beautiful alto voice, mom will be joining that heavenly choir and singing praises to her Heavenly Father. Mom graduated from Boonville High School in 1928 as valedictorian of her class. She retired after 27 years as manager of the cafeteria for Courtney School where she was "mom" to so many. Her love for all the children was endless. She lived in Snellville, Ga., with her daughter from 1985 to 2003 and then moved to Advance. Mom loved all people; she had a heart for service to others. While living in Georgia, she served in a nursing home ministry for many years. She reached out to the lonely; the staff was often amazed that her time and effort was spent with people much younger than she was. Preceding mom in death were her parents, B.C. and Vallie Money; her husband, Harvey Lester Martin; brothers Brod! ie and Ben Money; and sisters Ruth Whitaker and Lola Brown. Mom is survived by her children, Olivia Talbert of Advance; Ben (Shelby) Martin of Boonville; and Carol Peters of Advance. She is also survived by three sisters, Lela Johnson and Doris (Charlie) Hobson of Yadkinville and Ada Lee Jester of Texas. She is also survived by all of her special grandchildren, Tom Talbert of Tobaccoville; Dick (Theresa) Talbert of Advance; Denise (Neil) Leach of Concord; Sam (Mitzi) Talbert of Winston-Salem; Marty Martin of Cary; and Bryan Peters of Snellville; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The service to celebrate Mom' s life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 6, in Mackie-Sinclair Chapel, with Dr. Sam Brockway of Lawrenceville, Ga., and the Rev. Harry Sammons and the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Courtney Baptist Church where she has been a member since 1945 and taught Sunday school for many year! s. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, March 5, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101, Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or to Calvin Simmons Ministries, P.O. Box 1181, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of the ninth floor of Forsyth Medical Center and to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their sincere compassion and support through this difficult time. Our thanks also go to our friends in Davie County Home Health, especially Jean Southern. Special thanks to Mattie Lyerly who was a devoted friend and daily companion to mom for several months. We also want to thank the staff at the respite facilities where mom stayed while we took a break and to Davie Place. And finally, thanks to all her family and friends for their prayers, visits, meals and love. Mackie-Sinclair Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family of Mrs. Martin.
