She was the youngest daughter of Jim and Ona Cornish Hoots of Yadkin County, sister of Margie Shore, Lottie Seay, Annie Ashburn, Ruby Snow, Maxie Casey, Corbett, J.D. and Sherman Hoots, and half-sister of Charles Hoots, all of whom predeceased her. She is survived by a half-brother and half-sisters, Bob Hoots, Betty Wooten, Clara Nalls, Sarah Wood, Catherine Levan, Janie Wooten, Patty Hoots; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special sister-inlaw, Lura Hoots. Minnie joined the WACs in 1943 and served in the WWII in the occupation of Berlin. Upon her discharge she worked in Washington, DC for a short period of time and then with a friend from her Army career, she left DC on a grand adventure, traveling the United States extensively, going all the way to the West Coast. They worked for short periods of time along the way to pay their expenses, and traveled by bus as they s! aw the country. On their stopover in Irving, TX she met and, in June, 1949, married Hubert Hodge, thus settling and living there for the next several years. They were blessed with one child, Jimmy, whom the Lord called home at 17 years of age after an extended illness. In her loss and grief, Minnie thanked God for the gift of her son and praised Him for having let her know the great love she had known as his mother. She worked for the Clerk of Court in Irving and retired from the Register of Deeds office there. After her husband's death in 1984, she moved back to NC to be near her family, living the last several years at Brookridge Retirement Home in Winston-Salem. Everyone fortunate enough to know her knew she was a woman of tremendous faith, a tender heart, and great love for her family and friends. She was truly a gentle woman and those who knew her were blessed by their acquaintance with her. A service celebrating her life will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Cha! pel, 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010 with Pastors Will Toburen and Steve Hardy of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member, officiating. Serving as pallbearers are many of her nephews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Her earthly remains will be buried near her mother at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville, NC following the service. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 5000 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, 27104. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
