She was born December 25, 1928 in Wilkes County to Charles H. Long and Arkie Long McBride. Mrs. Byrd was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesville where she was an active member of the Adult Choir. She assisted her husband in his ministery over the past 49 years, and shared a spiritual gift of a kind, loving, compassionate person to everyone that she met. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and her step-father, Fletcher McBride. Surviving are her beloved husband of 63 years, Rev. William D. "Bill" Byrd, of the home; her son, Randy Byrd, and daughter-in-law, Mary Byrd both of Concord; her daughter, Donna Byrd, and companion, Roger Drake both of Monroe; grandson, Timothy Stancil; several children that she loved and cherished as her own, including, Dal! e Barfield and Brian Ervin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday at Gentry Family Funeral Servcie in Jonesville. Her funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Jonesville by Rev. Roger Hensley. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens.
