Dobbins, 87, of Lake Hills Drive passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Dobbins was born August 2, 1923 in Yadkin County to the late Wesley F. and Carrie Gentry Dobbins. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army in the 10th Mountain Division, where he received several medals including the Bronze Star. Mr. Dobbins worked in the Agriculture Industry with several equipment dealers in the area until his retirement from Riddle Farm Equipment. He was a member of Harmony Grove Friends Meeting and served the church in earlier years on several committees including an elder. Mr. Dobbins enjoyed going camping with his wife, but his greatest enjoyment in life was when he was able to enjoy conversation with his numerous friends at home and camping. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sheliah Dobbins; a sister, Mary Kennedy and husband, Paul; and a brother, ! W.F. Dobbins, Jr. Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years, Jessie Walker Dobbins, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Talmage Dobbins, Abingdon, VA.; grandson, Justin Walker Dobbins; 3 sisters, Doris (Jesse) Lowe, Marie (Early) Eaton, Barbara D. (the late Hoyt) Adams; and a brother, John Henry (Dorothy) Dobbins. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be 2:30 PM Saturday at Harmony Grove Friends Meeting by Rev. Steve Harrellson, Dr. Harold Salmons, and Rev. Nelson Spaulding. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Woltz Hospice Home, Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Woltz Hospice Home and special friends, Lee and Linda Dameron, for all the loving care ! and support given to Mr. Dobbins and the family.
