She was born on April 25, 1945 in Surry County, the daughter of the late Myron Atwell and Pansy Pauline Thompson Hester. She owned and operated James Tax Service for many years and was employed by H & R Block prior to that. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was actively involved in the Yadkin County Humane Society. She was a "Foster Mom" to many motherless and homeless animals throughout her life and had a great love for her own surviving pets. Surviving are her husband, Pastor Bill James, Jr. of East Bend; her children, Kevin James and his wife, Lisa of Lexington, Kelly Riggs of Mount Airy, Kristy Dinkins and her husband, Randy of Yadkinville, Kenan James and his wife, Dana of Yadkinville and Kyle James and his wife, Shannon of Mount Airy; her 12 precious grandchildren, Chrystal, Alex, Emily, Brylea and David James, Kaleb and Karlie Riggs, Erika, ! Tyler and Sydney Dinkins and Kylie and Brayden James; and her aunt, Mary Ruth Humphries of Mount Airy. Funeral services will be conducted at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel on Silas Creek Parkway at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010 by Pastor Lyn Ballentine. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Gail has requested that memorials be made to the Yadkin County Humane Society, P. O. Box 1652, Yadkinville, NC for use in the Spay/Neuter Program.
