He was born October 9, 1926 in Hamptonville to the Rev. Erastus Roosevelt (ER) Crater Sr. and Pearl Henderson Crater. Mr. Crater was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He was a retired life-long tobacco farmer, having worked to establish a tobacco market in Yadkinville while working in various other tobacco warehouses in NC, SC, and GA. He also served a number of years in Yadkin County Law Enforcement; served as a NC Forest Warden; and was a Deacon at Zion Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathleen Crater Robertson; and a grandson, Bryan Crater. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edna Ashburn Crater; son, Terry Lee (Joanne) Crater; daughters, Diane (Tony) Flippin, Pamela (John) Long; grandchildren, Marty (Toni) Crater, Bart (Angie) Crater, Sergeant (NCHP) Rodney (Jill) Crater, Major (USMC) Heath (Callie) Fre! eman, Wendy (Steven) Mosteller; and numerous great-grandchildren; and beloved dog "Oozie". The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His Funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Rick Page, and Dr. Joey Tomlin. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the Service. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Zion Baptist Church, 714 Union Grove Rd. Union Grove, NC 28689.
