He was born February 5, 1918 in Yadkin County to the late Henry and Percey Haynes Groce He loved farming, gardening and also loved to help his neighbors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Merlie Bryant Groce; sisters, Virginia Wagoner and two infant sisters; brother, Worth "Bud" Groce. Surviving are his children, Donald (Glenda) Groce and Sherrill (James) Shore; grandchildren, Greg (Pam) Groce, Janet (Chucky) Settle, Mark (Jamie) Shore; great grandchildren, Jake Groce, Boone Groce, Jordan Settle, Megan Shore, Lindsay Shore, Erin Settle, Mackenzie Shore; sister, Lillie "Tot" Wooten; brother, Leonard (Carol) Groce; special nephew, Harold Wagoner; special friend, Tony Carlton. His funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Fall Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Roger Groce and the Rev. William Wease. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He wi! ll lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville.
