In 1779 John Elsberry bought a tract of land (400 ac) on a branch of Hunting Creek on "both sides of the road that leads from the Shallow ford to the Mulberry fields"; in 1784 he bought 300 ac. on "Rockey Branch, a draft of Hunting Creek". At some point in time he gave land on which to build the Elsberry Methodist Episcopal Chapel and Graveyard on Little Hunting Creek. Questions: 1. Is the present day Hunting River at the southwest corner of Yadkin Co. one and the same as the Hunting Creek mentioned above? 2. Do Rockey Branch & Little Hunting Creek still exist? 3. Would this general location be in South or North Buck Shoals Twsp.? 4. When did the area become 2 separate twsps? It was known just as Buck Shoals, I believe, in late 1790s into 1800 5. Would either of the two Methodist churchs in Buck Shoals twsp. on the Yadkin Co. cemeteries website be the successor to the Elsberry Chapel? If not, does anyone know where that might have been? Thank you in advance to anyone who might be able to educate me about this. Eleanor
