She was born on March 25, 1927 in Yadkin County to Garlie and Amanda Ross Taylor. She was a member of Beck's Baptist Church, and was a devout Christian. Her graciousness and unfailing kindliness endeared her to all, while her strength of character, sincerity, and high ideals won their genuine respect. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Junior Smitherman; three brothers, Austin Taylor, Melvin Taylor and Clyde Taylor; a sister, Treva Holland; and a half sister, Lillian Matthews. Surviving are two sons, Ron Smitherman of the home and Larry (Donna) Smitherman of King; two brothers, Glenn Taylor of East Bend and Paul Taylor of Pfafftown; four sisters, Ann Roggencamp of South Carolina, Opal Denny of Pilot Mountain, Faye Walker of Winston-Salem, and Grace Hardy of East Bend; two grandsons, Chris (Heather) Smitherman and Greg Smithe! rman; and one great-grandson, John David Smitherman. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Huff Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ray Hamilton and Dr. Karl Ray Minor officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, March 8, 2010 from 1 until 2 p.m. immediately prior to the Funeral Service. Burial will follow in the New Home United Methodist Church Cemetery.
